Ukhyang Festival of Thangi Village – A Journey of Faith from the Mountains to the Deity !
In the remote Thangi village of Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, a sacred festival called Ukhyang is celebrated with deep devotion and unity. This is not just a festival—it is a living tradition that connects nature, deity, and community.
Every year, the villagers travel together to a holy site known as Piber, where the festival continues for five consecutive days.
⛰️ The Most Unique Ritual
Selected 5 men from the village climb high into the mountains to gather sacred flowers. These flowers are not treated as ordinary blossoms—they are believed to be divine offerings meant only for the deity.
Once the flowers are collected, they are presented to the village deity with prayers and rituals. It is believed that upon receiving these flowers,
the deity blesses the entire community with good harvest, prosperity, and protection.
✨ Ukhyang is more than a celebration — it is gratitude to nature, respect to tradition, and a promise to protect our culture for generations to come.
