🛠 From Dumpster to Dorm Room: A Table with a Story!
I love turning scrap materials into something beautiful, and this entry hall table is no exception. I built it using salvaged pine, a 2x4, and a rough piece of plywood I found in the trash pile of the construction site across the street. To make this project extra special, I inlaid some reclaimed purple heart cedar from a fallen tree on the ranch into the tabletop, adding a vibrant pop of color and unique character.
Experience the soothing sounds of planing, sanding, and precision joinery as I transform salvaged pine and reclaimed purple heart cedar into a timeless entry hall table. No voiceover—just pure woodworking ASMR, letting the craft speak for itself.
This project (like my pie safe video) was inspired by some incredible woodworking creators I follow. Jason over at @EpicUpCycling continues to showcase the art of upcycling with his amazing projects, and Nick from @homemadeinlviv8041 has an incredible talent for turning raw logs and other reclaimed materials into stunning furniture. Watching their work motivated me to incorporate salvaged and natural materials into my own projects—like the cedar inlay in this table. If you haven’t seen their channels, they’re both well worth your subscriptions!
The table features two drawers and elegant, tapered legs for a timeless look. I finished it with Danish oil to enhance the natural beauty of the wood and gave it to my daughter for her first apartment at college—a piece of home and the ranch to take with her and treasure for a lifetime.
Join me in this video as I walk through the process of building this one-of-a-kind entry table from salvaged and sentimental materials. I hope it inspires you to see the potential in everyday wood scraps and create something meaningful.
Materials & Techniques:
Salvaged Pine & 2x4s: Repurposed from construction scrap
Plywood: Found in a neighbor’s trash pile
Purple Heart Cedar: From the ranch, inlaid into the top for a stunning design
Tapered Legs: Classic design for a sleek profile
Danish Oil Finish: Protects and enhances the wood grain
