I bow to Lord Shiva,
The supreme sovereign principle,
Beyond beginning, middle, and end,
The support of all beings,
Yet Himself unsupported and changeless.

He is an infinite ocean of bliss and awareness,
Of wondrous power and valor,
The consort of Goddess Ambika,
The supreme Ishana, beyond all rulers.

Once, sages arrived in Dwaraka
Eager to see Lord Krishna.
Krishna welcomed them with reverence,
Honored them properly, and blessed them.

Asked by the sages, Krishna narrated
The divine story of Kumara (Skanda),
The destroyer of Earth’s burden
And the giver of joy to all worlds.

After completing daily rituals,
Krishna bathed and performed Sandhya,
Then worshipped Lord Shiva with devotion,
Offering flowers, fragrance, and sacred grains.

With folded hands he prayed:
“Victory to Shankara, Lord of the Moon,
Protect me, O Mahadev.”

Krishna then chanted Shiva’s thousand names,
Seated in Padmasana, pure and tranquil,
Focused solely on liberation and devotion.

The sages were astonished.
Markandeya asked Krishna:
“You are the Supreme Lord—
Then why do you worship Shambhu?”

Krishna replied:
“Shiva is the deity of all worlds,
The cause of all causes,
The supreme light of bliss.

He is beyond qualities, unborn, eternal,
The soul of all moving and unmoving beings.
Sadashiva alone is Mahadev, Shankara,
Pure, all-knowing, all-pervading.

No higher deity exists in the three worlds.
From Shiva’s will came creation, preservation, and dissolution.
From His left arose Vishnu,
From His right Brahma,
And from His center Rudra—
He is Time itself, the Supreme Lord.”
