Historic Martin's Station is a recreated frontier fort that was originally built in 1775 by Captain Joseph Martin and a party of 18-25 men.
In June of 2002, the fort was restored. Workers brought 18 horses, 2 oxen, and a wagon load of tools and food to the property for the project. Every aspect of the construction was done using 18th-century techniques.
Visting Martin's Station is an awesome way to travel back in time and experience what life was like in the 18th century!
From the Historic Martin's Station website:
"Historic Martin’s Station is an outdoor living history museum at Wilderness Road State Park in beautiful Lee County, Virginia. The Station features the most authentic reconstructed frontier fort in America. Virginia’s frontier comes alive here as costumed interpreters demonstrate life in Colonial America. Historic Martin’s Station is a special place where you can directly experience history first-hand. It is a place where you can reach out and touch history, and where history can touch you. A visit here can never be forgotten."
