This is a 3 ton 2.7 doosan mini digger with a cone splitter screw attachment fitted for splitting logs for fire wood. These fresh logs had been chopped with a chainsaw first and were very damp and needed seasoning. Splitting them this easy way will speed up the time required for them to dry out ready to be used as fuel in log burners.
It is estimated that by splitting them with this attachment it will speed up the seasoning process by at least six months.
You can split logs easily when they are dry but newly felled trees are damp and contain a lot of moisture which makes the logs difficult to split with an axe, this is a clever alternative to splitting them with an axe.
