Are you a community group thinking about taking ownership of your local church? Are you already managing your church for the benefit of the community? This free online event is for you.
Heritage Trust Network and Historic Churches Scotland are joining forces to host the next event in this series for any group contemplating the future of their church building. At this event we will learn about Church Plans from The Churches Conservation Trust (CCT).
An invaluable tool for any church building, a Church Plan is a document created by CCT to assist in the management of their portfolio of nationally important former Church of England Churches. At this event Isobel Milne will explain the key elements of a Church Plan and how to create your own using their helpful template. A copy of CCT's template will be provided for you to adapt and use at your own church. After the presentation, we will have a Q&A session with the speaker followed by an informal discussion with attendees.
Isobel Milne is the Churches Conservation Trust's Lead Local Community Officer for the West of England. She looks after 19 churches across Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire and manages the Local Community Officers who support a further 101 churches across the West of England.
The Churches Conservations Trust's strategy is to empower and support communities to care for historic places of worship. A sustainable CCT church is well used by its community(ies), generates sufficient funds for the maintenance that keeps it in a good state of repair, and enables additional fundraising for specific repair and improvement projects. Join Isobel to hear how Local Community Officers facilitate this through their work with the community to co-create Church Plans. Church plans are a working document which combines information on the church's history, significance, maintenance and repair needs and current use of the church, with feedback and recommendations from the community, and concludes with an action plan setting out agreed short, medium and long term goals to support the sustainable use and care of the church
Thanks to Historic Environment Scotland and National Trust for Scotland for making this event possible.
