One of the privileges of living in a country like india is to be surrounded by ancient temples whose history spans hundreds of years. As a child, what I found most fascinating about temples are the stories that live in them. Have you ever looked at an old tree and wondered what all it must have witnessed? What if it could share its stories with us? An ancient temple is like a speaking tree, an inexhaustible store of fascinating stories. A place where legends, myths and history overlap so seamlessly that it is impossible to say where one ends and the other begins.
In this series titled “Temple Stories” I plan to share some fascinating stories from temples.
Every ancient temple in india has an origin story. It is called the sthala puranam. My first memory of a sthalapuranam is that of Srirangam, one of the most sacred vaishnavite shrines. This is the story of how Ranganatha came to Srirangam.
