Mad Rat Dead - Ending and Credits

Rat God can no longer influence Mad Rat or his life in any way. And to make sure Rat God never enters Mad Rat's mind again, Mad Rat turns back the clock to before his operation, knowing that Rat God was previously in Heart, and decides to free Heart before he was turned into, well, a heart.

Without the bursts of speed and power Heart provides, Mad Rat struggles to even walk...but he does make it to the pet carrier where Heart is located. He opens it and reveals that Heart is a cat! (There have been plenty of clues left throughout the game to indicate what he actually is, but if you hadn't figured it out until now, here's your answer! And there's no shame in not knwoing.) Granted, we don't know what the mad scientist did to turn Heart from a cat into an autonomous organ to use in that operation, but it seems to have resulted in the death of Heart as a cat.

That doesn't mean Heart is an enemy in any way though--regardless, Heart remains Mad Rat's most steadfast friend all the way to Mad Rat's dying moments. With Mad Rat finding it difficult to even move, Heart takes it upon himself to restore Mad Rat's legacy, convincing the Black Cat to avoid eating rats so he doesn't get infected (which I presume is why Heart stopped walking for a few moments in the credits) while distracting the little girl so she isn't hit by a truck.

After that, Heart returns to the laboratory to spend whatever time Mad Rat has left together. Mad Rat climbs onto Heart's back, and they leave the lab.

That line of "I'm used to seeing you die already!" varies with how many times Mad Rat has failed going through the story. If the number is 200 or more, he'll say instead "I've seen you die hundreds of times!," which puts a relief to me because I somehow pulled it off with a running count of less than that.
