The Yellakonda Shiva temple in Telangana has a history dating back to the Kakatiya period, around 1000 years ago, and is known for its resemblance to the Ramappa Temple's architectural style. Local legend states that the site was named after the sage who was meditating there, and after whom Shiva and Parvati descended, turning the hill into the "Silver Hill" or "Vendi Konda," which eventually became Yellakonda. The temple is located in Vikarabad district, approximately 60km northwest of Hyderabad, and is also called the Sri Parvathi Parameswara Temple.
Origin and legends: According to local legends, the hill was once called "Vendi Konda" (Silver Hill) because of the belief that Shiva and Parvati descended there to bless a sage performing penance.
Construction: The temple is believed to have been constructed during the Kakatiya dynasty, making it about 1000 years old.
Architectural style: The temple's architecture resembles that of the Ramappa Temple, known for its beauty and grandeur.
Temple layout: The main temple is on the hilltop, with another Shiva temple located at the base. The main temple's rectangular hall has a roof adorned with carvings of the Ashtadikpalas (eight guardians).
Notable features: A striking seven-headed Naga (serpent) sculpture is a notable feature in front of the temple.
