Video edit capturing the spirit of Oxford St Giles Funfair.
Held on 4 & 5 September 2023 (Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain)
St Giles Fair began in 1624 as a Parish wake celebrating the Feast of St Giles.
It became a children’s fair in the 1780s and by 1800, a fair with rides, stalls and shows from which modern day fairs were born.
Oxford St Giles Fair is the first of the back-end fairs which appear as if by magic across streets, some only for a day, bringing smiles, laughter and memories to so many people.
