In which I get animated about Chinese stages over time, dynastically and linguistically speaking. When did Chinese become "Old", "Middle" and "Modern"?

Here are the two tools I keep referencing to follow Chinese linguistic history: a timeline of historical eras and a second timeline of language stages. I'll spend longer on the first, since I . Could we reduce them to one timeline with labels from both fields of study? Well, at the end, I've found three reasons they don't match up fully when we try. On top of practicing my art and building up to a later animation, I wanted a video to point to anytime we get stuck in the timing of Modern to Middle to Old Chinese. Thanks for joining me.

Chinese terms used for the linguistic periods:
上古 Early Old (Old)
中古 Middle Old (Middle)
近代 Near Era (Modern)
現代 Current Era (Modern/Contemporary, including Standard)

Dynastic terms are as found anywhere, but check my sources below for compounds.
