We made this compressed earth block over a year ago using our native sandy soil and 10% Portland cement—back when we were still experimenting with our formula.
Two months ago, we dropped it into a bucket of water to see how well it could handle long-term moisture. Today, we’re pulling it out for the first time and testing its strength.
Can this stabilized earth block survive a serious soak? Will it hold up under pressure—or fall apart in our hands?
We’re building our off-grid desert home using compressed earth blocks, and this kind of testing is a crucial step in making sure our foundation is strong—literally.
Watch until the end to see how we plan to improve our mix and test a new clay-rich version next!
