Clinical Psychologist Dr. Suzanne Vierling draws parallels between the surrender of women’s sports in the western world to waving the white flag in battle throughout history. Allowing men to invade female spaces leads to the sexual exploitation of women - as we are seeing in sports today. She explains that men in particular have to understand that a tool of war has been deployed. The victorious army raise a flag on the woman of the conquered army to send a message.
In Western culture today, the flag has been raised on our star female athletes to let women, girls and society at large know that our community is being dismantled. If we allow women champions to be torn down in status by a male and her accomplishments mocked, it is a symbol that the culture has crumbled so far the women are handed away as spoils of war to the conquering ideology.
