Part of the Scoring with Harp series, to showcase the variations of harp sound within the immersive score of movie soundtrack.
Episode 1 - harp-oriental fusion mix in dramatic pace.
Every CNY, the sounds of tanggu and chinese cymbal really excites me and wakes me up to welcome a refreshing, new start of the lunar year.
I'm so inspired by the western/oriental fusion of orchestration in Shang Chi soundtrack, especially the use of harp with tanggu, which in reality, the live performance wouldn't work with tanggu 10x times overpowering the harp!
but they work so well in recordings! I tried to recreate the soundtrack with the limitation of the VSTs that I own. Instead of tanggu I used taiko drums, still sounds powerful!

Whilst there is no enriching, epic tanggu live performances, I hope to recreate the piece with some live harps, drum mix and oriental VSTs. This piece is to complement Shang-Chi's training scene with Jiang Nan at Ta-Lo (starring Simu Liu and Michelle Yeoh). What's better than having multiple harp glisses layered together? 😇
Happy Year of Tiger! 🐯
Thank you for listening!
