Machakos People's Park: Of The People, For the People, By the People 🙌🏾

Machakos, also called Masaku, is a town in Machakos County, Kenya. It serves as the capital of the county. As the county's slogan goes, Machakos truly is the place to be.

It is known for its hilly scenery and offers good camping and hiking spots. It is also the hometown of some of the world's most beautiful sculptures, crafted in Wamunyu.

Machakos is famous for the public Machakos People's Park, the largest recreation park in East Africa, covering 40 acres of land. The park was opened on February 7, 2014, by the former governor of Machakos, Dr. Alfred Mutua. It is located 15km from Machakos Junction on Mombasa Road.

The park overlooks the mostly dried-up Maruba Dam. Entry to the park is free, and it is highly recommended for family visits as it offers diverse amusement parks suitable for all ages.
