Sixfields.
I spoke with some very confident Mansfield fans before kick-off about our recent good form and this being another massive test… and we started shaky to say the least.
But on 18 minutes — Rhys Oates did what Rhys Oates does.
Shifted onto his left, edge of the box, low into the bottom corner and the away end absolutely ERUPTED! Limbs everywhere, noise unreal! 0-1 Stags! 💛💙
From there, Mansfield controlled things and looked comfortable going into half-time 0-1.
But second half…
Night and day.
Mansfield were a shadow of the side that dominated the first 45.
Northampton equalised just 8 minutes into the second half through Jack Perkins, and the momentum swung massively. Mansfield struggled to get going and when Northampton won a penalty on 74 minutes, Tom Eaves stepped up and converted it. 2-1 Cobblers.
We pushed late on, Lucas Akins had a golden chance to level it… but it just wasn’t to be.
Northampton managed the game brilliantly, slowed it down and saw it out.
