In 1993, Russia experienced a constitutional crisis between President Boris Yeltsin and Parliament. The conflict arose due to differences over economic and constitutional reforms. Following Yeltsin's dissolution of Parliament and his refusal to recognize his dismissal, violent clashes broke out. Eventually, Yeltsin's forces took control of Parliament and a new constitution was approved in a referendum.
