Tihar, also known as the festival of lights, is one of the most beautiful and significant festivals celebrated in Nepal. It lasts for five days and honors not only gods and goddesses but also animals like crows, dogs, and cows that share a deep bond with humans. Each day of Tihar carries a special meaning — from Kaag Tihar (crow day) to Kukur Tihar (dog day), Gai Tihar and Laxmi Puja, Govardhan Puja, and finally Bhai Tika, which celebrates the sacred bond between brothers and sisters. Homes and streets glow with diyas (oil lamps), colorful rangolis, and the joyful sounds of Deusi-Bhailo songs fill the air. Tihar is a festival that symbolizes light over darkness, love over hatred, and unity among families and communities.
