Giambattista Vico: Understanding Greek Literature & Philosophy

In this lecture, we examine the relationship between Greek literature and philosophy with Giambattista Vico. With Vico's framework, we begin to see how poetry and drama attempted to provide a metaphysics for the cosmos and our place in it, failed, and how in the ruins of the cosmos philosophy emerged to offer a new metaphysics providing for the rise of rationalism out of the storm of pathology.
