William Thomas was a highly respected musician in the greater Boston area. As a cellist, conductor, and beloved educator at Phillips Academy Andover, Thomas left a permanent legacy not only at the school but by his pioneering work in creating world premiere recordings of chamber music by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Florence Price, and the present first recordings of Saint-Georges' six string quartets. it was a labor of love upon which he lavished his boundless energy and his captivating humanity, all of which shine through these performances. William made a believer of countless people through his performances and recordings of this very special yet neglected repertoire, and he saw to it that these scores were recorded in the best sound available. Scott Kent was the amazing engineer and producer of these recordings and you will notice that they have an unusually warm and crystal-clear sound. This recording is a brilliant testament to the skill and memory of both William Thomas and Scott Kent.
