Chapter 1- Biology: Exploring Life

This video should be used in conjunction with "Campbell Biology Concepts and Connections".

One important topic not covered in the video is the idea of a control group when performing an experiment. A control group allows for a comparison to be made between that and the experimental group. For example, if you were swabbing peoples' hands to see how much bacteria are on them and later plating them to see if they will grow on agar, the control group would be a plain agar plate that was not swabbed with bacteria. This would ensure that the growth media that was used was not contaminated, allowing for the results of the experiment to be more valued.
