As part of the 200th anniversary celebrations of the opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway on 27th September 1825 various railway events around the UK are being held during 2025.
Here at Hopetown Works in Darlington, the Titans of Steam Gala is being held over a two week period during the build up the the Bi-Centenary of the first loco hauled journey on the Stockton & Darlington Railway. This Saturday, 27th September 2025 a replica of Locomotion No. 1 will run over parts of the Stockton & Darlington route to re-enact the very first loco hauled train that carried passengers and coal.
In this video we see locomotives on display, those under repair and restoration and a glimpse of new build loco LNER P2 No. 2007 'Prince of Wales' under construction in the A1 Locomotive Steam Trust's workshop.
This video has an emphasis on Darlington built locomotives.
