How I Got TEMPORARY RESIDENCE in Mexico Through Marriage

When applying for a Temporary Resident CARD by reason of Family Unity in Mexico, you must have several supporting documents with you, such as:

A Mexico Visa Application Form, printed and signed. If the applicant is a minor, the parents or legal guardians have to sign the application form.
A passport or other travel document, which has blank pages so the visa can be affixed.
A valid FMM (forma migratoria multiple)
Proof of family relationship (marriage certificate, birth certificate, apostilled if foreign-issued, also translated by a perito traductor with their attestation forms and seals
If using Mexican birth or marriage certificate, it must be a certified copy with a QR or bar code - this can be obtained at the goverment run kiosk or office
Any additional documents that the Mexican embassy asks you to provide.
COPIES OF EVERYTHING

You apply ONLINE for a Temporary Residence Card at the National Immigration Institute (Instituto Nacional de Migracion (INM)) website:

Complete tramite (application procedure) online but do not sign the documents themselves. You will do this in person at the INM office.

Collect the required documents. See the requirements for a Mexico Temporary Resident Visa below.
Submit the application, print out copies
PAY your fees by printing out the invoices from this website: https://www.inm.gob.mx/gobmx/derechos/
Take these Pago de Derechos to any major Mexican bank and pay them in CASH, obtain receipts and make photocopies of all pages.

On the date of your appointment, you must submit ALL the documents and photocopies of all documents and the application forms at the INM office.

If you are approved, you will be photographed and fingerprinted and your biodata will be secured in the Mexican governments official database.
If all goes according to requirements and with some luck, you will leave the INM office with your Temporary Residence Card.

The Mexico Temporary Resident Card is valid for one year on the first issuance and can be renewed for another one, two, or three years.

After four years of living with a Temporary Resident Visa, you become eligible to apply for Permanent Residency.

you will take your acta de matrimonio to the kiosk, pay your fee and receive a validated version of it which the INM office will need.
