In 2019, UNESCO New Delhi in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan launched an initiative to invigorate cultural tourism in the districts of Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Barmer. The project entitled ‘Promoting Intangible Cultural Heritage and Developing Cultural Tourism in Jodhpur, Barmer, Jaisalmer and Bikaner districts in Rajasthan,’ seeks to implement a three-pronged approach – safeguarding the intangible cultural heritage of the locals, empowering artists for pursuing their traditional skills as livelihood and developing artist villages as cultural hubs.
