Pearl Jam released ‘Even Flow’ as the second single from their debut album Ten. The song peaked at no.3 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and propelled the band into the mainstream.

‘Even Flow’ proved hard to capture for the band. They allegedly tracked it between fifty to seventy times until they reluctantly chose a version on which they built the song as we know it. The recording featured original drummer, Dave Krusen, whose lack of experience made the song fluctuate in tempo. He believed the demo had a better feel but the band decided on a take from the album sessions. Pearl Jam recorded an alternate version of the song with drummer Dave Abbruzzese, who replaced Krusen soon after the release of Ten.
