Al-Ula Kinetic Wall is an interactive and kinetic sculpture blending fine aesthetics and high technology installed into Maraya Concert Hall in Al Ula, KSA.
This kinetic artwork was meant to escort music and entertain the audience between one performance and another during Winter at Tantora Festival in 2018.
Whether no one is standing in front of the facade, the sculpture performs a set of pre-programmed choreographies. Whenever a person approaches the wall, it turns interactive and reacts, opening a "porthole" that shows suggestive video animations behind.
The moving wall's activation is allowed by 168 stepper motors and custom-designed motion controllers hidden into the frame. The onlookers' position is recognized and computed in real-time thanks to two laser sensors for object detection and ranging (Lidar) placed at the facade's base.
