Neural networks are said not to see inside their heads, so you can't know what they're thinking. GANs are an exception. Not only can you see inside their heads, but you can record what's going on in the neuron's head and then turn it into videos showing the learning process.

This video shows the learning progress of the ThisBeachDoesNotExist.com neural network (StyleGAN2-Ada). The dataset contained 20,000 images of beaches that the network learned over and over again. The learning progress is measured in units of kimg (kilo images). I trained the network for 25,000 kimg (until it had seen 25,000,000 images).
