Climbing England’s TOUGHEST Mountains | Lake District Vlog

This trip wasn’t planned at all.

Between me, Tia, and Josh, we had a sudden urge to just go — do something, somewhere — so within 24 hours we packed up and headed to the Lake District to camp in the mountains.

After a long drive filled with pit stops, we decided to tackle Helvellyn as soon as we arrived. The original plan was ambitious: summit the mountain and sleep overnight in Priest’s Hole, a cave embedded high in the rock face. But after reaching the summit later than expected, darkness forced us to change plans.

From cooking surprisingly decent meals straight out of Tesco tins, to a boozy send-off under the stars, day one quickly turned into a lesson in adapting on the fly.

Day two started with a stunning walk back down the mountainside, capturing drone footage that really put into perspective how immense our surroundings were. On the way down, Josh decided to wash in a freezing stream — with sheep watching on in judgement.

Reaching the bottom, we attempted to hitchhike back to where we set off initially. When that failed, I volunteered to run back myself… until severe cramp nearly ended it. Somehow I pushed through — only to later find out Josh and Tia had successfully hitchhiked thanks to Tia’s charm.

After a makeshift shower using a portable water bag, more tinned “nutrition”, and a short rest, we headed out again for our final mission: attempting to reach 'The Priest’s Hole' from another route. What was supposedly a 150m climb turned into two hours of hiking, stopping at 635m due to pitch-black conditions, strong winds, and common sense finally kicking in.

That night, sleep was impossible. The wind battered the tent relentlessly, leaving Tia and me wide awake. With no rest, we trekked back down at first light and headed home — exhausted, but buzzing.

Chaotic, uncomfortable, spontaneous… and absolutely worth it.
