A rather iconic level crossing found in a rural set-up on the edge of Appleford, Oxfordshire. This is one of only a handful of level crossings around the UK which is only operated on request, so a plunger has to be pressed to notify a nearby signalling centre in Didcot in order for the barriers to be raised, though only if there are no approaching trains, and the barriers are lowered again after a few seconds of the users being clear of the level crossing with the lights turning off once the barriers are down. One of the alarms also sounded rather faulty at the time of filming, but has since been replaced. 'Authorised Users Only' signs were present, although these seem to only mainly apply to vehicles due to the presence of bridleways and public footpaths on the western side of the level crossing.
