✅ Sciatica is often classified as pain radiating or going down the leg from the lower back (lumbar spine).
➡️ This sensation of pain can result from several factors such as impingement of the sciatic nerve, spinal disc herniation, Spondylolisthesis, etc etc.
⚠️ However, Sciatica can also result from a Weak Gluteus Maximus & Overactive Piriformis - which is also termed as Piriformis Syndrome.
🦵🏽The Gluteus Maximus and Piriformis perform similar concentric actions (hip extension & external rotation)
😳However, the piriformis is significantly smaller than the Gluteus Maximus!
🔥 An overactive piriformis means that it is doing all of its responsibilities ALONG with some of the Gluteus Maximus’ job as well!
😫 Due to the piriformis’ smaller size and greater workload - in relation to the glute max- this causes the piriformis to over exert itself and fatigue which can result in the sciatic like symptoms one may experience.
❓ As a result of Sciatica/Piriformis syndrome, the solution may simply be to activate and start firing up those glutes!
