Fresh from the Showcase here at SwissWatchExpo. Today, we're going to talk about Panerais and the differences between the Panerais. We're not going to get bogged down in the details of the movements and all the little small things that people get mired into. We're going to take a little bit of time to talk about the individual style of each one or what I like to call the flavors of Panerai. And the reason I refer to them in terms of flavors, because of all the different colors that they'd come in, and a lot of the fun, different ways that the straps can be configured, especially like this green one here, this Radiomir with this bright green strap that brings out the green luminescence in the Radiomir dial. There's a couple of different ways that you can identify Panerai. And a lot of people get really confused between what is a Luminor?

What is a Radiomir? Why do they have a Radiomir and a Radiomir 1940? Why do they have a Luminor and a Luminor 1950? And it goes on like that. And over the years, it can be very confusing, but there's some very distinct differences because those different nomenclatures refer to when the watch was actually invented and then reinvented along the way. So there's some very distinct differences in the year patterns of those, especially in the Radiomir. So the very first portion of the Radiomir was distinct because of the way that it had a specialized crown, that a lot of people refer to as an onion crown, or kind of, it looked like a little tornado, the way that it was convicts in the way that it was shaped, it started out wide at the end. And then when it went to a point towards the center, almost looked like a little tornado.

When the watch is sitting on its side, I don't like the term onion crown. So I'm going to avoid that as much as possible. We don't have one of those here in our display right now, because I want to talk about a couple of differences in just the overall stature of the Radiomir and the Luminor. So we can kind of familiarize ourselves with them. These are the Radiomir 1940s. The original Radiomir had a little wire that went from one side of the case to the other, and that's how they attached in the fixed the strap. So when you see the Radiomir original with the wire lug, then you will know that's just the original Radiomir. And so that Radiomir sort of appeared around the 1938 to 30 time period. It really started coming into its own for the Italian Navy around the early 1940s.

Now you say, well, but there's a Radiomir 1940. Well true. So that watch originally was around for about four or five years, the Italian Navy. And then they moved on to this style that we have here in the Radiomir 1940s model. So this was the most predominant model throughout the 1940s period, before they got to the Luminors. Now, the interesting thing about these particular watches and the reason I like both of these, I'm going to tell you, so the, this particular one with the green is a zero zero five seven four. Now that can be confusing. And the number set and pattern, and a lot of people refer to these watches and they think I don't have a clue what the number is that goes with the style of the watch that I'm looking at. Well, don't be confused. Everybody does this. This is you're not alone in this only the very most attentive Paneristi would be paying attention to those numbers.
