St. Francis of Assisi (4 October): Seek Poverty

Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, one of the most beloved and recognizable saints in the Catholic Church. While often remembered for his love of animals and nature, the true life of St. Francis reveals a much deeper story of conversion, radical poverty, humility, and holiness.

Born into wealth, St. Francis lived a life of comfort until God led him through suffering, vision, and grace into a mission of rebuilding the Church—not just with stones, but with faith. From embracing Lady Poverty to preaching to the birds, from facing down wolves to boldly evangelizing the Sultan during the Crusades, Francis lived a Christ-like life of courage, sacrifice, and joy.
