With bitter cold settling into the Kansas City area, warming centers and emergency shelters are expanding services to help protect people experiencing homelessness. Unity Southeast Church in Kansas City opened its emergency shelter Friday night, two days ahead of the city’s official winter cold-weather shelter activation, due to dangerously low temperatures.
