This video (and others on my channel) shows my Pianolodeon playing a Music roll from start to finish.
The Pianolodeon is a mechanical instrument that reads music from holes punched on a paper roll and plays each hole automatically as the roll passes through the tracker bar and a pneumatic system corresponding to the instruments keys is engaged . Watching it play is quite fun. You can actually see the music being made as it plays.
This particular Pianolodeon is in very good shape and plays smoothly. You may hear a bit of motor hum in the background. I did some tinkering and adjustments to get it sounding as good as possible, and this was the cleanest result I could get. Even with the motor noise, the music still comes through nice and has a really pleasant character and feel.
I enjoy sharing these roll recordings so others can hear and see how this unique instrument works. There’s something special about mechanical music and the way it brings sound and motion together. Additionally, this channel has some recordings of rolls that simply can’t be found anywhere else on the Internet…At least I couldn’t find them!
