On January 20, Dolphin Kidnapping Crew appealed the court ruling ordering it to pay ₩1 billion to ADOR for uploading NewJeans’ “ETA” director’s cut without written approval. The company also requested a stay of enforcement to delay payment during the appeal.
But the appeal itself isn’t the most important development.
During the trial, a highly sensitive Kakao Entertainment shareholder agreement surfaced in open court — a contract with extreme profit targets, personal liability clauses, and exit restrictions that was never meant to be discussed publicly. Former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin appeared as a witness to defend Shin Woo-seok, and in doing so, confirmed that this agreement had been shared and discussed internally, with Kakao’s legal team present in the courtroom.
In this video, we break down why the appeal is unlikely to change the outcome, how the court prioritized written contracts over verbal claims and industry practice, and why the exposed shareholder agreement may matter far more than the ₩1 billion headline.
