Course Description 課程簡介﹔

The introductory course of Global Studies features the ICI’s signature three-track programs – Globalization & Democratic Governance (GDG), Asian Society & Sustainable Development (ASSD), and Global Technology and Innovation Management (GTIM) – and outlines how they interweave in our complex living worlds. Drawing on a wide-ranging scholarship across International Political Economy, Law, History, Geography, Sociology, Anthropology, and Science and Technology Studies, we aim to offer undergraduates an interdisciplinary knowledge ground to global studies. In this course, we will explore together how opportunities and challenges emerge across national boundaries at the intersection of people, ideas, environment, resources, species, capital, and events.

The course is structured in two parts. First, we will begin by exploring the key debates in Global studies to facilitate knowledge grounds of global studies. Second, we invite scholars and experts to share their findings and experiences. Topics of guest lectures here are indicative. Lecturers will update their topic accordingly based on their expertise. These topics may cover themes on global economy and technology; sovereignty, conflicts, and (in)securities; urbanization and inequality; gender and labor politics; health governance; energy transition; environmental and social sustainability; global media, culture, and the subjects; and global digital justice. As a whole, this course will guide you to see different globalizing projects and processes that bring forth uneven developments across regions and communities.
