This is a song about love. It begins with an anonymous English Renaissance ballad, Go from my window, and segues into my song seamlessly, borrowing freely from the folk song in the accompaniment. This is in the spirit of Renaissance songs like John Dowland's, "Can she excuse". In the third part of Dowland's song he quotes the popular folk song "The Woods so Wild". The affect of the active folk song melody in the accompaniment and the static melody in the voice is very powerful. In my song, I quote the folk song first and then let the songs merge, change, morph into each other and finally, during the last part, with the exclamations of "Love", it returns again.

Run right after you
Word and Music by Joel Frederiksen
Ballad Strophe 1:
Go from my window love go!
Go from my window, my dear.
The wind and the rain will drive you back again,
you cannot be lodged here.
Strophe 1:
I want to run right after you
kiss you again and hold you, too
Tell you I'll see you soon again
But I don't, and I won't
Instead I'll write that I love you
That I only want good things for you
That I love being close with you so I won't lose you
And this evening was something wonderful
Wonderful and magical,
that I won't forget as long as I will be alive
It's a good idea to let things get more relaxed
But still we're cowards, can't decide.
Refrain:
And so I'll say good night, my dear
I cannot stop this flow of tears
And I will promise not to write
Even if I give up that fight and lose you:
Love, Love, Love, Love.
Ballad Strophe 2:
Go from my window love go!
Go from my window, my dear.
The devil's in the man, and he cannot understand,
that he cannot be lodged here.
Strophe 2:
I want to run right back to you,
make what we both wish for come true,
feel you as close as two can be,
But I don't, and I won't.
Instead I'll write that I thank you
That I could spend tonight with you
That I could kiss you and hold you so I won't lose you
And this evening was something magical
You're the first thing that I think of
when I wake up and the last one when I fall asleep
Nothing is more wonderful, Magical than two souls
when they fall in love.
Refrain:
And so I'll say good night, my dear
I cannot stop this flow of tears
And I will promise not to write
Even if I give up that fight and lose you:
Love, Love, Love, Love.
