Maritime Domain Session 2 - Project Showcase — Immersed Tunnel and Port & Waterway II Initiatives

This session presents two flagship initiatives under the buildingSMART Maritime Domain: the Immersed Tunnel Project and the Port & Waterway II Project. Both projects exemplify how openBIM workflows and open standards are being applied to address complex challenges in maritime infrastructure.

The session will begin with a deep dive into the Immersed Tunnel Project, highlighting its technical roadmap, progress to date, and the application of openBIM and IFC standards to support data consistency, project coordination, and lifecycle management.

Next, the session will introduce the Port & Waterway II Project by briefly reviewing the Phase I project and highlighting the gaps between its outcomes and the current needs of the industry. The content will focus on refining the existing data framework and defining new application scenarios. Two representative use cases—structural analysis and water quality monitoring—will be presented to help the audience better understand the scope of work and expected outcomes of the Phase II project.

Together, these projects showcase the Maritime Domain’s commitment to advancing digital transformation through open, collaborative approaches. The session will conclude with an open discussion, inviting feedback and engagement from the broader community to help shape the next steps for both projects and their alignment with the Domain’s strategic roadmap.
