Chandeshwori Jatra, is also known as Chasu Ajima Jatra, is a significant Hindu festival celebrated in Bhaktapur, Nepal, on the day before and the day of Baisakh Shuklapurma, the full moon of the Baisakh month. It involves processions of the goddess Chandeshwori, known in Newari as Chasu Dyo, and culminates in a "Tipwa Jatra" where the goddess's idol is set on fire. The festival also includes sacrificial worship and a procession known as "Chatamari Jatra," where the goddess's palanquins are carried through Bhaktapur's streets.
The Jatra marks the day when Goddess Chandeshwori defeated the demon Chanda, signifying the triumph of divine power over darkness and chaos.
Devotees believe that participating in the Jatra brings protection, prosperity, and hope. The goddess is worshipped for her blessings of courage and strength.
