A terrific spot in Bayou Bienvenue to target bluegill, shellcracker (redear sunfish), and catfish lies just off the powerline towers and along the deeper holes adjacent to marsh drains. Situated in the turning cuts of the bayou—especially near the marsh canal outlets—these deeper edges provide both structure and depth changes, making them ideal for bottom-feeding bream and sunfish. The powerline area, with its drop-offs and cooler currents, concentrates both bluegill and shellcracker, while channel cats cruise the deeper troughs at night or in low light. For best results, use small nightcrawler or worm rigs just off the bottom for bluegill and shellcracker, and heavier rigs baited with cut shrimp or chicken liver as night falls to entice catfish. The bayou’s mix of deeper canals and shallower flats mimics the conditions described in local angling guides—especially around powerlines and marsh outlets
