C.M. Recto Avenue is one of Manila’s most layered streets.
Walk it slowly, and the city changes block by block.

Once known as Azcárraga Street, this avenue was renamed after Claro M. Recto, a nationalist thinker and statesman. Over time, Recto evolved from theaters and elite commerce into a dense corridor of schools, trade, transport, and everyday survival.

Part 1 of this full walking tour follows Recto on foot, showing how Manila actually works at street level.
