So lemme just say this now,
IOB IS STILL A THING. This is just a solo project (as of now) that i am working on.
Paper Noob is a game for roblox based on the original Paper Mario Trilogy (Mostly TTYD tho) and the Mario & Luigi Series. I had put some concepts in a community post but i decided making a whole video would be better. Below are all the written concepts i have so far
FIELD MECHANICS
Just like in any rpg Noob can perform actions on the field. Movement is handled by the arrow keys which felt more natural considering the locked camera view of the game. It also allows me to give Z and X a similar feeling to A and B on a controller. X is always jump on the field (with few exceptions) and Z is an action button, which is different for each character, but we will get yo that in due time. For Noob, Z triggers a hammer attack that can hit and activate various objects.
PARTNERS
Paper Noob features partner characters but not in the way you may be used to. On the field all your partners follow you in a line and pressing C changes who is in front. Each partner has their own field action mapped to Z with X being a jump button at all times. Since all partners are out at once you may wonder how transitioning into battle works. Well, by default Noob will also be out is battle as well as another partner that can be pinned through the menu. By default your newest recruited partner is pinned.
BATTLE
The battle system is a mix of classic Paper Mario and modern Mario & Luigi. Two characters can be out at a time and can do various solo moves. Characters can also work together to perform special moves which are unique to that pair of characters. Partners can be swapped at any time but use a turn in the process so be careful!
Instead of guarding you will defend like in Mario and Luigi. The top partner will use X and the bottom partner will use Z, but this ONLY applies to defense. On offense moves may use various different buttons that will appear on screen. Exp works like M&L where all enemies give a set amount of XP and instead your level up requirement is raised with each level. EXP is distributed based on which partners are used the most in said battle but all partners will get some EXP regardless. Leveling up is similar to Mario & Luigi with you being able to boost a specific stat and getting rank ups every now and then.
LEVELS AND RANKS
Unlike Paper Mario, where you need 100 EXP no matter what level you currently are to level up. The amount of EXP you need to level up just increases with each level. (this is really so I can just give each enemy a constant EXP drop rather than having it be a variable that depends on the player’s level) Ranking up gives you certain perks which you can choose which one to get at each rank. Although on your first rank up you will unlock advance moves, which are just like the ones from Superstar Saga but there are advance moves for every attack in the game. Imagine a mix of stylish moves and advance moves. That’s the simplest way to put it.
I have many story concepts but i dont wanna share too much of the story too fast so youll have to wait for that!
The animations in this video are also in FLIPACLIP. i havent gotten around to animating in roblox bcs its really confusing for me ;-;
Also the thumbnail is a joke (kinda, i dont like coding but its not that bad)
