Newfoundland Road Trip - Yamaha Virago 535 & 1100

While I live in Calgary, I have the utmost privilege of working in St. John's, Newfoundland - almost 5000kms away. I've met some great people over the last few years and, most recently, my friend Bob. We both have Yamaha Viragos and he surprised me by borrowing a neighbour's Virago 535 so we could go for a ride. Two things are for certain - Newfoundland pride and hospitality. Newfoundland is where you'll find the most beautiful ocean landscapes and the most friendly, down to earth people.

It was my last day on shift where I had no scheduled flights so I was released for duty shortly after lunch and Bob picked me up in his vintage Triumph TR6.

This is a pretty long video - about 30 minutes, but it is compressed down from a 4 hour ride. We were short for time and I've visited most of these places already but this time it was more about the ride on the bikes. We switched up a couple of times from the 1100 to the 535 and I was pretty happy with the performance of the 535, but the 1100 was just a beast. The 1100 has a lot more power but it's also got a lower centre of gravity and smoother power and torque making for a really easy bike to toss around through the corners.
