Martinez Asks Dr Fonseca Why Would Jodi Arias Record Phone Sex Conversation with Travis Alexander?

This is when prosecutor Juan Martinez first started cross-examining Jodi Arias’ psychologist witness Dr. Fonseca. There were a few testy moments which would characterize how the two personalities would match up against each other for the rest of the cross-examination.

Martinez gets it out in this exchange that in May of 2008, Jodi Arias reported that the phone that contained her phone sex conversation with Travis was stolen. Then when the trial started it was “magically” found. May of 2008 was also the time when a burglary was reported at Jodi’s grandparents’ house where a .25 caliber gun was stolen. All of these reports of lost or stolen items occurred just before Travis was murdered. The reason for the gun being reported as stolen is understood but why would Jodi report the phone as stolen if it wasn’t really stolen (as Martinez appears to suggest)? It’s possible that Jodi’s plan to murder occurred as early as when the phone was reported stolen. She may have known that she would be a possible suspect in the murder and that she would be required to turn over her phone to investigators. Since the phone contained the phone sex conversation with Travis, it would connect her to him & the relationship she was having with him at the time. This would connect her as having a possible motive for the murder. Indeed, it would be very convenient if that phone just happened to be “stolen” weeks before the murder. If this is what happened, then it shows even more the extent of the premeditation that occurred prior to the murder.
