25 以利亞對巴力的先知說：「你們既是人多，當先挑選一隻公牛犢，預備好了，就求告你們眾神的名，卻不要點火。」 25 And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire under.
26 他們將所得的公牛犢預備好了，從早晨到午間，求告巴力的名說：「巴力啊，求你聽允我們。」卻沒有聲音，沒有應允的。他們在所築的壇四圍踴跳。 26 And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made.
27 到了正午，以利亞嬉笑他們，說：「大聲呼求吧。因為他是神，他或說話，或趕路，或行路，或睡覺，你們必須叫醒他。」 27 And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.
