MAI - Nightmares

Nightmares is an atmospheric post-rock / blackened emotional track about the quiet terror that grows between two people who no longer trust the ground beneath them.
It’s a slow descent into doubt - into the fear of being used, replaced, or forgotten once the spotlight fades.

Cold guitars, reverb-heavy ambience, soft spoken tension and despair that keeps tightening its grip.
A confession about giving everything to someone who might only be holding you until their path clears.

For anyone who has ever felt like a shadow carrying someone else’s storms.

You walk like nothing’s breaking,
yet the tension hangs like ice.
You tell me every dream in detail…
but hide the one I fear the most.

You say there isn’t a deadline,
just a promise we once made for peace.
But what does that mean for us?
Am I the warmth you seek…
or just a hand you use to stand?
I carry your hunger, your silence,
your tremors when the storm hits.
You cut me with your judging eyes
while I swallow my guilt.

And these nightmares crawl into my chest:
Am I a placeholder for comfort?
A shadow you lean on,
until your real road clears?
I bleed for every moment you shake,
but I’m scared of what comes after
when the stage lights fade.

You train for the day of judgment-
Your body sharp as winter,
your voice cold when hunger speaks.
I take every blow without protest,
every mood when anger rises.
But why do I feel disposable,
like a coat you’ll shed
the moment the show is done?

These nightmares swallow me whole:
Will I still matter when the spotlight dies?
Or am I just strength you borrow,
a crutch you’ll cast aside
when your path feels clear again?
I fear the man you’ll meet
when you say it’s only a “goodbye.”

I hold you through the shaking,
but the doubt gnaws at my mind.
I want to trust your kindness…
yet something feels rehearsed.

You share your dreams in colors,
but hide the road behind your eyes.
I fear I’m not your future-
only the silence you use
to quiet your nerves.

And when the lights go out,
and the stage turns cold…
will you still see me,
or step over the pieces
you carved out of my soul?

Nightmares whisper truths
I pray aren’t real.
But every glance you throw
cuts a little deeper.
Tell me…
when the competition ends,
will I still be a man to you,
or just a shadow
you used to get there?
