The National Rifle Association went ahead with its convention in Houston, Texas, just 300 miles from the elementary school where 19 children and two teachers were slaughtered. Several performers pulled out of the convention’s concert this weekend, including Lee Greenwood, Don McLean and Larry Gatlin. Outside the NRA convention, protesters held crosses with photos of the 19 victims of the shooting. Houston’s mayor says he was powerless to stop the convention.
