Modular knitting with geometric shapes can be assembled into bigger pieces such as blankets easily. I knit diamond shapes with simple increases and decreases. Just sew them up later and add a border. You can sew a cotton fabric backing if you like. It does not have to be a diamond shape. Simple triangles or squares can be knitted individually and assembled later.
