Join us on an incredible journey through Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, as we, "Crazy Podda," team up with our friends from "Athal Kicken" to explore some of the most iconic and historically significant sites in this ancient city. Our adventure takes us to Ruwanveli Maha Sayya, Srimaha Bodhiya, Isurumuniya, Sigiriya, Mihinthalaya, and Kurunegala Athugala Vehera. Come along and experience the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Sri Lanka through our eyes!
Our trip begins at the awe-inspiring Ruwanveli Maha Sayya, also known as the Great Stupa. This massive stupa, built by King Dutugemunu, stands as a symbol of the island's deep Buddhist roots and ancient architectural prowess. As we walk around this sacred site, we delve into its history and significance, capturing its grandeur and the serene atmosphere that surrounds it.
Next, we visit SrimaBodhiya, home to the sacred Bodhi Tree, believed to be a sapling from the original tree under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. This revered site draws pilgrims from all over the world, seeking blessings and spiritual solace. We take you on a peaceful tour of this holy place, highlighting its tranquil surroundings and the devotion of the visitors.
Our journey then leads us to Isurumuniya, a rock temple renowned for its stunning carvings and scenic beauty. The temple is famous for the Isurumuniya Lovers, an exquisite rock carving depicting a romantic couple. As we explore the temple complex, we showcase its unique architectural features, mesmerizing rock formations, and serene ponds that add to its charm.
From Isurumuniya, we make our way to Sigiriya, one of Sri Lanka's most iconic landmarks. Also known as Lion Rock, this ancient rock fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We climb to the summit of Sigiriya, where breathtaking views await us. Along the way, we marvel at the intricate frescoes and the ingenious engineering of the ancient water gardens. The panoramic view from the top is nothing short of spectacular, offering a glimpse into the grandeur of this historical marvel.
Our adventure continues to Mihinthalaya, a sacred mountain where Buddhism was first introduced to Sri Lanka. This site holds immense religious significance and is a place of pilgrimage for Buddhists. We explore the ancient ruins and monasteries, sharing the stories of how Buddhism spread across the island. The tranquility of Mihinthalaya and the stunning vistas from the hilltop create a sense of serenity and spiritual connection.
Finally, we conclude our trip with a visit to Kurunegala Athugala Vehera, a massive rock formation with a gigantic statue of Lord Buddha at the top. This majestic site offers panoramic views of Kurunegala and its surroundings. The climb to the summit is rewarded with a sense of accomplishment and a deep appreciation for the beauty and spirituality of the place. We capture the awe-inspiring views and the peaceful ambiance, making this a fitting end to our incredible journey.
