"RoboCop" is a brilliant sci-fi action movie released in 1987. The film works on so many levels, starting with a fantastic story for an action movie . . . a cyborg police officer taking on a criminal gang in futuristic, crime-ridden Detroit. At its core, “RoboCop” is a gory and intense popcorn movie with an edge.
But it’s so much more than that, as the film delivers a biting satire of the excesses of 1980s American culture. The film utilizes humor and exaggeration to take on themes such as unchecked capitalism, corporate greed, consumerism, media sensationalism and societal decay.
The film is directed by Paul Verhoeven and stars Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Ronny Cox, Miguel Ferrer and Kurtwood Smith.
